I bought the CM500 to replace a Motorola SB6121 to my Comcast internet. I had no problems with SB6121 but I wanted to get something a bit more future proof. looking at the models with 16 channels, decided on this over SB6183 being slightly cheaper, smaller form factor, and having no blinding of LEDs. for initial setup I wired the modem directly to my laptop, rather than the router. After switching on and synchronize with your ISP, I was able to go for online activation Xfinity
